Creattura raises JPY 350m from the Development Bank of Japan and Sumitomo Mitsui Insurance

Creattura, which supports companies in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by developing and providing carbon credits and facilitating the introduction of renewable energy, has raised 350 million yen in Series A First Close financing. Creattura has officially signed contracts with DBJ Capital and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Capital. Creattura plans to use these funds to accelerate expansion of the business, for international project development and IT product development.

Background and Purpose of Procurement

With the mission “To preserve and regenerate humanity’s natural heritage for future generations,” Creattura promotes carbon project development, provides carbon credits, and offers consulting services to help companies and other entities decarbonize their operations. Since its establishment in July 2022, the cumulative amount of carbon credits and renewable energy certificates sold exceeds the equivalent of 800,000 tons of CO2. This volume is comparable to the annual emissions of approximately 400,000 individuals.

As the necessity for global climate change measures increases, the demand for carbon credits worldwide is expected to grow significantly, from approximately 100 million tons in 2020 to 1.1 billion tons by 2030. In Japan, the demand is also expected to surge dramatically with the full-scale implementation of the emissions trading system starting in the fiscal year 2026. However, due to recent concerns about the overestimation of CO2 reduction in some projects, there is a growing need for highly reliable carbon credits.

It is within this context that Creattura is addressing the demand for highly reliable projects by independently developing new initiatives, such as a methane reduction project in rice paddies in the Pangasinan region of the Philippines, in collaboration with Kubota Corporation and Tokyo Gas. Additionally, the company aims to ensure reliability through the increased use of technology and software. With the funds procured, Creattura will accelerate the development of domestic and international carbon projects, in order to meet the rapidly expanding future demand. Further, Creattura will invest in the continued development of the Lynx digital MRV platform. Lynx is a commercial technology solution for rigorous digital monitoring of carbon projects, including rice AWD, using AI and satellite remote sensing.
