Healthcare technology startup Henry Inc. has secured ¥1.2 billion ($8.1 million approx.) in a new funding round combining venture debt and equity to expand its cloud-native electronic medical records (EMR) platform across regional Japan.

The transaction is structured around an ¥1.1 billion venture debt syndicated loan arranged by The Shizuoka Bank, consisting entirely of regional banks, including The Bank of Fukuoka, The Joyo Bank, The Bank of Nagoya, and The Yamanashi Chuo Bank. The debt facility is supplemented by a ¥100 million equity investment from two regional venture capital firms, YMFG Capital and Hokuhoku Capital.

Founded in 2018, Tokyo-based Henry provides integrated, cloud-based core administrative software—combining EMR, order management, and medical billing—designed specifically for small to mid-sized hospitals.

The capital injection comes amid growing pressure on Japan’s regional healthcare infrastructure. According to data from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the number of operating hospitals nationwide fell 12.0% between 2005 and June 2026, dropping to 7,944 facilities. Rural institutions face worsening staffing shortages and operational bottlenecks driven by a declining working-age population.

At the same time, regulatory tailwinds are accelerating digital adoption. Revised healthcare legislation enacted in December 2025 mandates near-100% adoption of electronic medical records across Japanese medical facilities by the end of 2030, establishing cloud-native systems as the national standard.

Henry plans to deploy the proceeds to expand its deployment and transition support teams, enhance its medical business process outsourcing (BPO) offerings, and accelerate the development of AI workflows. Beyond funding, the partnership allows Henry to tap into the regional banks' existing networks of healthcare clients to drive commercial adoption across regional markets.
