KDDI Turns Ponta Points Into Stablecoins With HashPort Deal

HashPort has signed a capital and business alliance agreement with KDDI. Under this alliance, HashPort conducted a third-party allotment capital increase to KDDI. As a result, KDDI acquired more than 20% of HashPort's issued shares, making HashPort an equity-method affiliate of KDDI.

Going forward, both companies will leverage HashPort's technological capabilities and expertise in providing the EXPO2025 Digital Wallet (rebranded as "HashPort Wallet" on October 31, 2025) at the Osaka-Kansai Expo, along with KDDI's mobile infrastructure, customer base, and financial business assets, to cooperate in planning and developing Web3-related services and promote the social implementation of Web3.

As the first initiative of this alliance, HashPort Wallet with 1 million cumulative downloads will collaborate with Ponta, which has approximately 120 million members, and au PAY, which has approximately 39 million users, to implement the following partnerships:

  1. Provision of exchange services from Ponta points to stablecoins and cryptocurrency within HashPort Wallet
  2. Provision of exchange services from stablecoins and cryptocurrency to au PAY gift cards within HashPort Wallet (the acquired au PAY gift cards can be used to charge au PAY Money Light)

Through this collaboration, the partners aim to establish smooth access to digital assets, including stablecoins, for domestic users.

The above services are scheduled to begin on Monday, December 1, 2025.

Going forward, HashPort will continue to advance collaborations that utilize HashPort's technological capabilities and innovation along with KDDI's assets and economic sphere, aiming to realize our mission of "bringing unseen value into daily life."

Comment from Mr. Shunpei Tatebayashi, Deputy General Manager, Open Innovation Promotion Division, KDDI: "HashPort has a track record of operating a Web3 wallet that achieved 1 million downloads at the Osaka-Kansai Expo, along with high technical capabilities and expertise in Web3. We see great potential in a future where smooth access to digital assets through Web3 wallets creates new experiential value. In addition to this investment, KDDI will work together with HashPort to implement Web3-related services in society through the provision of diverse payment methods including Ponta points and au PAY."
Comment from Yoshihiro Yoshida, Representative Director and CEO, HashPort: "We are very pleased to be able to work together on the social implementation of digital assets through this capital and business alliance with KDDI. Through the development and operation of Web3 wallets at the Osaka-Kansai Expo and elsewhere, HashPort has been working to build social infrastructure that allows everyone to access digital assets safely, easily, and freely. Through this alliance, we believe that HashPort Wallet can dramatically expand the user base for digital assets in Japan by collaborating with KDDI Group's wide range of services and customer base. We will continue to strive toward realizing a future where smooth access to digital assets creates new experiential value."
