PayPay Launches "PayPay Gift"

PayPay Launches "PayPay Gift"

PayPay Corporation has launched "PayPay Gift," which allows users to send digital gift certificates to friends and family for use at partner stores. Senders can set the gift certificate amount in 1-yen increments as desired, and send them with personalized messages such as "Thank you" or "You did great," along with their choice of design, using the "Send/Receive" feature in "PayPay". It can be used for a wide variety of occasions, from small tokens of appreciation to celebrating birthdays and life events.

"PayPay Gift" is a digital gift certificate, so senders only need to select the partner store where they want to send the gift—there's no need to specify particular products. Recipients can freely choose their favorite products from the wide selection available at partner stores. Additionally, unlike traditional paper gift certificates, which require carrying, storing, and presenting them at stores, "PayPay Gift" can be used with just the "PayPay" app.

"PayPay Gift" can be purchased using PayPay balance, PayPay points, or PayPay Credit. When purchasing "PayPay Gift," it counts toward "PayPay Step" (PayPay's standard benefits program) and is eligible for PayPay point rewards. However, when using "PayPay Gift Certificates" received through "PayPay Gift" for payments, these do not apply. Additionally, the maximum amount to be sent varies depending on your identity verification (eKYC) status in "PayPay."

Users can send "PayPay Gift" from the "Send" icon or the newly added "Gift" icon on the "PayPay" home screen. When users receive "PayPay Gift," it is automatically registered as a "PayPay Gift Certificate" in the payment methods within the app. If "PayPay Gift Certificate" is set as the top priority payment method, it will be prioritized for payment at partner stores during checkout.

Gift certificates received through "PayPay Gift" don't need to be used up in a single transaction—any remaining balance can be used at the next purchase. Recipients can also use up to 2 certificates together, and if the "PayPay Gift Certificate" balance is insufficient for the purchase amount, it can be combined with other payment methods. The gift certificates received through "PayPay Gift" have an expiration date of 180 days, and reminders will be sent via push notifications before expiration to prevent forgetting to use them.

Merchants can introduce "PayPay Gift" without needing new system development or changes to register operations. Additionally, unlike traditional sales promotion methods, "PayPay Gift" spreads usage from PayPay user to PayPay user. This is expected to help merchants reach user segments that traditional advertising and campaigns could not reach.

"PayPay Gift" is being launched with the following partner stores, and the list of partner stores is expected to expand going forward.
