SBI Investment, a venture capital subsidiary of SBI Holdings, has partnered with Hankyu Hanshin Holdings to establish a new 4 billion yen corporate venture capital (CVC) fund.

The new vehicle, officially named the Hankyu Hanshin Innovation Partners No. 2 Investment Limited Partnership, was launched with a planned 10-year operational term. Managed by SBI Investment, the fund builds on the success of the duo’s initial 3 billion yen CVC fund established in April 2021.

Hankyu Hanshin Holdings—a major Japanese conglomerate operating across urban transportation, real estate, entertainment, information and telecommunications, travel, and international freight—plans to use the expanded fund to target three primary investment pillars:

- **Existing Business Synergies:** Funding startups with innovative technologies or business models to streamline operations, enhance productivity, and launch new consumer services.
- **New Growth Drivers:** Investing in emerging tech sectors and market trends outside current operations to cultivate mid-to-long-term growth engines.
- **Regional & Social Impact:** Supporting R&D-focused startups in Kansai and firms solving societal or ESG-related issues, helping to build a tech and industry cluster around Osaka's Umeda district and along Hankyu Hanshin’s railway lines.

The transaction underscores SBI Investment’s position as a leading CVC manager in Japan. The firm reported that its cumulative CVC commitment capital has reached 186.5 billion yen, with this release marking its sixth company-backed "No. 2 fund" partnership to date.
