Startale Japan Issues Landmark Digital Bond Settled Entirely in Yen Stablecoin

In a first for Japan’s capital markets, Startale Japan has issued a digital corporate bond that settles both interest and principal redemption payments using JPYSC, a yen-denominated trust-type stablecoin.

The issuance marks the first time a Japanese corporate bond utilizes a yen stablecoin across its entire lifecycle, offering a real-world test case for integration into traditional corporate financing instruments. Issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank and developed in collaboration with Startale Group, JPYSC tracks the yen on a 1:1 basis and operates as a Type 3 Electronic Payment Instrument under Japan’s Payment Services Act.

The offering, restricted to domestic individual investors and corporations in Japan, aims to evaluate broader applications for onchain capital markets, tokenized assets, and digital corporate fundraising. According to Startale Group CEO Sota Watanabe, testing JPYSC in a live transaction provides a framework to expand stablecoin settlement mechanics across Japan's financial sector.

Startale Japan, a subsidiary of Singapore-based Startale Group, focuses on blockchain infrastructure and product development in partnership with domestic financial institutions.
