Sumitomo Enters Strategic Capital Alliance with FinTech Firm MILIZE to Drive AI-Powered Financial Services

Japanese trading conglomerate Sumitomo Corporation has entered into a capital and business alliance with Tokyo-based fintech company MILIZE. The partnership aims to commercialize new digital services by integrating MILIZE’s financial AI and data technology with Sumitomo’s global business infrastructure.

The agreement comes as shifting macroeconomic conditions in Japan—marked by rising inflation and the expansion of the NISA tax-exempt investment framework—drive a structural pivot from traditional cash savings toward wealth accumulation.

Simultaneously, the broader financial services sector is accelerating the adoption of generative AI and automated agents to streamline operations and deliver personalized financial planning.

Under its Medium-term Management Plan’s Digital & AI Strategy (DAIS), Sumitomo plans to deploy MILIZE’s financial engineering capabilities across its operating companies and portfolio firms. Key initiatives will focus on developing enterprise decision-making tools, employee life-planning platforms, and integrated digital services, alongside existing shareholder SCSK Corporation.

Founded in 2009, MILIZE specializes in big data analytics, risk management solutions, and financial AI development, maintaining a capital base of 910 million yen as of May 2026. Financial terms of Sumitomo's equity stake were not disclosed.
