Sumitomo Life Partners with IRRC and Finatext to Launch AI Platform for Multi-Independent Agencies
Sumitomo Life Insurance Company has joined forces with IRRC Corporation and Finatext to jointly develop an AI-powered digital support platform designed for multi-brand insurance agencies. Billed as an industry first, the solution aims to streamline compliance, enhance sales quality, and support agency autonomy in response to recent regulatory changes under Japan's Insurance Business Act.
The platform integrates Sumitomo Life's compliance expertise with IRRC Corporation’s "AS System" database—which features policy analysis and policy comparison tools—and Finatext’s generative AI and data analytics capabilities.
Knowledge and customer experience design from Sumitomo Life's subsidiary, Singlife, are also being incorporated into the system.
Key Features and Operational Scope
- Integrated Workflow: The solution digitally covers the end-to-end sales lifecycle, from capturing customer intent to generating product comparisons, documenting policy selection rationales, and archiving interaction logs for compliance audits.
- Generative AI Agent: The system assists agents by identifying coverage needs, generating additional interview questions, filtering suitable policy candidates, and summarizing recommendation drivers. Final sales decisions and client presentations remain strictly under the control of human insurance advisors.
- Regulatory Alignment and Neutrality: Designed to reduce administrative burdens surrounding mandatory audit trails, the platform aims to minimize sales bias by maintaining transparent selection criteria rather than favoring specific carriers.
- Shift to Digital Agency Support: The initiative reflects a broader regulatory pivot away from insurers providing direct personnel support or excessive business concessions to independent distributors, transitioning toward tech-driven agency self-reliance.
The partners plan to build a functional prototype, showcase the technology at upcoming financial industry trade shows, and gather direct feedback from agencies ahead of a wider rollout.
