Standard Chartered's SC Ventures and SBI Group Back Soter Insure in Series B Second Close

Institutional digital asset insurer Soter Insure has secured strategic investments from SC Ventures, the innovation arm of Standard Chartered, and Japanese financial conglomerate SBI Group in the second close of its Series B funding round.

The second close also included follow-on participation from Token Bay Capital, which has backed the insurer since its Series A. The capital injection supplements a round led by Galaxy, following an initial close in July 2026 that included Coinbase Ventures, Franklin Templeton, and Brevan Howard Digital.

Soter Insure plans to direct the proceeds toward expanding its balance-sheet underwriting capacity, bolstering its underwriting and technology infrastructure, and funding geographic expansion across Europe, the United States, and the Asia-Pacific region through its Hong Kong outpost.

Institutional market entry into digital assets has frequently been constrained by a lack of commercial insurance capacity, preventing banks and asset managers from applying conventional institutional risk frameworks.

"Banks can't scale in digital assets without the risk protection they rely on everywhere else, and today that protection is still scarce," said Henson Orser, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Soter Insure. Orser noted that the addition of SC Ventures and SBI Group aligns traditional finance institutions and digital-asset natives behind building institutional-scale capacity across leading regulatory jurisdictions.

Herve Francois, Principal of the Digital Assets Fund at SC Ventures, emphasized that specialized insurance remains an essential component for institutional market participants, stating that the investment targets a regulated platform capable of meeting institutional standards globally. Yangte Kim, SBI Group’s UAE representative, noted that developing comprehensive insurance solutions is critical to supporting long-term ecosystem resilience as digital asset adoption expands.

Incubated by Further Ventures and WebN Group, Soter Insure is headquartered in Abu Dhabi, operates out of Bermuda, and maintains offices in London, New York, and Dubai. The company underwrites specialized coverage for financial institutions, including Directors & Officers (D&O), Professional Indemnity (PI), Crime, Specie, Slashing, and Smart Contract Failure, with policies denominated in both fiat and native digital assets.
