From Wall Street to Music Rights: Startale Bolsters Onchain Finance via BlackRock Alliance and Soneium RWA Expansion

Web3 infrastructure developer Startale Group has rolled out a series of institutional finance and real-world asset (RWA) initiatives across Japan and international digital asset markets. Within a seventy-two-hour window, the company entered into a strategic pact with BlackRock and SBI Holdings, opened retail and accredited access to a $549 million tokenized royalties fund on its Soneium blockchain, and secured a spot on CB Insights’ ninth annual Fintech 100 list.

1. BlackRock, SBI Holdings, and Startale Form MMF Consortium

SBI Holdings and Startale Group announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with BlackRock Financial Management and BlackRock Japan to examine the architecture for a digital asset ecosystem connecting tokenized money market funds (MMFs) with JPYSC, a yen-denominated trust-type stablecoin.

The initiative capitalizes on Japan’s revised Payment Services Act, which established a regulatory foundation for stablecoins, by shifting focus toward market-ready distribution rails and institutional liquidity bridges. The cross-border collaboration centers on three operational pillars:

  • Technology and Infrastructure: Establishing the baseline technical criteria and connectivity mechanisms necessary to bridge tokenized MMFs with JPYSC.
  • Business and Commercial Distribution: Developing scalable institutional business models and distribution channels leveraging each counterparty’s market footprint.
  • Regulatory and Market Structuring: Evaluating ongoing legal requirements and formulating standards for the broader adoption of tokenized assets and fiat-pegged tokens.

Leadership from all three participants emphasized the accelerating migration of traditional financial instruments onchain. Yoshitaka Kitao, Representative Director, Chairman, and President of SBI Holdings, characterized onchain finance as an "unavoidable global trend," noting that the alliance will build upon SBI's issuance of JPYSC alongside products engineered by SBI Global Asset Management. Sota Watanabe, Chief Executive Officer of Startale Group, cited US regulatory tailwinds from the Securities and Exchange Commission as evidence of an "irreversible" institutional transformation. BlackRock executives Yukiko Hashimoto, President of BlackRock Japan, and Jonathan Steel, Managing Director at BlackRock Financial Management, highlighted the asset manager's focus on expanding capital market efficiency and investor access through disciplined digital market infrastructure.

2. Soneium Deploys ipUSD Stablecoin and $549M Institutional Royalty Vault

Simultaneously, Soneium—the blockchain infrastructure network developed by Startale Group in collaboration with Sony Group—launched ipUSD and its flagship IP Vault.

The IP Vault vehicle provides eligible investors onchain exposure to a $549 million diversified royalties fund managed by Swiss private markets manager Partners Group ($186 billion in total assets under management) and tokenized through Asseto's infrastructure. Offering an estimated annual yield of 7% to 9%, the underlying portfolio encompasses over 100,000 royalty streams spanning consumer brands, pharmaceuticals, energy transition assets, and entertainment media. Key holdings include Discovery’s television library and the music back catalog of Canadian recording artist The Weeknd.

The mechanics of the product suite include:

  • Dual-Stablecoin Liquidity: Soneium introduced ipUSD, a dollar-denominated stablecoin backed by Startale USD (USDSC) reserves, which can be acquired on a 1:1 parity basis with USDSC or USDC.e through the Startale App.
  • Tokenized Vault Equity: Deposits into the IP Vault convert into shares denoted as sIPUSD, carrying smart contracts audited by blockchain security firm PeckShield.
  • Deposit and Settlement Structure: A minimum entry threshold of 100 ipUSD is required, with allocations processed in recurring monthly tranches beginning with a primary settlement date of November 2, 2026.
  • Two-Tier Withdrawal Mechanics: Investors may redeem capital via "Standard Withdrawal" (settling within Partners Group’s 90-to-180-day redemption cycle at prevailing monthly net asset values with zero exit penalties) or "Instant Withdrawal" (immediate execution subject to vault liquidity reserves, carrying a 5% redemption fee).

3. Onchain Entertainment Architecture and the $SONEIUM Economy

The financial product rollouts arrive alongside Soneium's blueprint for an "Onchain Entertainment Economy," currently hosting more than 250 decentralized applications across film, gaming, anime, music, and creator communities.

To align financial incentives across its network participants, Soneium revealed plans to launch an ecosystem-native token, $SONEIUM, with token generation event (TGE) specifics to follow. Protocol leadership confirmed that Soneium will adjust its base gas fee structure to reinforce network economics as commercial transaction volume scales.

The underlying framework introduces an "Onchain IP Architecture" designed to execute machine-readable intellectual property management compliant with the ERC-8432 Ethereum standard:

  • IP Registry Layer: Creates permanent, timestamped records documenting provenance, authorship, and title ownership.
  • IP Graph Layer: Indexes derivative works, AI-assisted modifications, and multi-party collaborator attribution.
  • IP Execution Layer: Employs smart contracts to automate royalty distribution and licensing payouts directly back to rightsholders.

Initial deployments under this standard feature character IP "Moriusa" from Tokyo-based Super State Holdings, alongside a partnership with Korean entertainment firm DayOneDream. The DayOneDream agreement structures live concert and touring cash flows from K-pop performers—including BTOB, LEE CHAE YEON, MEMI, and 2F—into onchain "Tokenized IP Bonds".

4. CB Insights Fintech 100 Recognition

Startale Group’s operational expansion was recognized by CB Insights, which named the company to its 2026 Fintech 100 cohort within the "Blockchain Networks and Interoperability" category.

Selection criteria for the annual index evaluated deal velocity, investor pedigree, corporate partnerships, team composition, headcount metrics, and proprietary platform scoring. CB Insights noted that the 2026 cohort represents $10.9 billion in aggregate lifetime equity funding—including $3.2 billion raised during the first nine months of 2026—and over 330 enterprise corporate partnerships established since 2025 with financial institutions such as JPMorganChase, Mastercard, and Nasdaq.

Startale continues to expand its broader institutional footprint, which includes the development of Strium (a Layer 1 blockchain engineered with SBI Holdings for tokenized securities and RWA trading), management of stablecoins JPYSC and USDSC, and the ongoing rollout of the Startale SuperApp.
