MUTB and Gaxi seek to establish Japan’s first grant-based scholarship fund through investment of donations
Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation and Gaxi will commence a joint study to establish a grant-type scholarship fund through the investment of donations. This will be the first of its kind in Japan, as a scheme that accepts contributions from an unspecified number of donors and allows them to select beneficiaries based on their wishes. A patent application has been filed for this entire scheme.
Overview
Gaxi is Japan’s largest scholarship platform that provides total services for scholarship users, operators, and donors. Gaxi offers services such as “Gaxi”, a scholarship information website for students and guardians that covers almost all 16,000 scholarships in Japan, and “Gaxi Agent”, a cloud-based scholarship management system that centrally manages scholarship applications, selections, and payments.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking leverages its trust structure to provide long-term, stable investment management that grows the valuable assets entrusted to it by its customers.

In this new envisioned service, the partners will consider establishing a fund based on the funds contributed by donors, managing the fund at Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking, and providing grant-type scholarships to many students through “Gaxi Agent” using the investment profits as a source of funds.
About Gaxi
In December 2023, Gaxi completed a total round of 270 million yen, structured as a Series A equity round from Genesis Ventures, Mitsubishi UFJ Capital, Marui Group, Yoshikazu Sekimi, and existing shareholders (KIBOW Social Investment Fund, Mizuho Capital), as well as through debt financing from financial institutions.
